So you’ve probably seen THC and CBD beverages popping up on store shelves. I’ve tried a few, and I was never super impressed with either the taste, or the effect. So we decided to make our own! Last year we started brewing our own kombucha at the farm, and then adding THC and CBD, and flavoring it with terpenes extracted from our hemp crop. We call it Kühlt, and it’s delicious! It contains 11mg of THC and 7mg of CBD. We’ve sold a bunch over the last year at farmers’ markets, and folks love the unique taste and the chill effects.

However, the problem with Kombucha is, it needs to be refrigerated, or it can get weird. So that’s no problem for markets or local stores, but we couldn’t ship it. Which is a bummer for folks that are a little too far away to visit.

So fast forward to a few months ago, when my dad and I were having a meeting about hemp and cannabis and stuff like that. I had the idea of a beachy sort of seltzer for a while, and we decided to go for it. We knew it had to be shipable, but also could not include any artificial preservatives, dyes, or anything else I couldn’t pronounce.

Citrus juices naturally have a very low pH, which makes them a great starting point for naturally preserved beverages, and I thought the idea of a citrus seltzer with a ginger twist sounded delightful, so I started experimenting.

Even though we know some folks have sugar restrictions, we didn’t want to use artifical sweeteners, so Organic Raw Cane Sugar was the move. Organic Lime, Lemon and Ginger juices provided the main flavor, and after weeks of trial and error we found the right Botanical Terpene Blend to complement both the taste, and the wellness effects.

We put all the good stuff into kegs with some THC and CBD, and let it get all bubbly and carbonated in our gas system, and wow, it was good. Refreshing, relaxing, and so tasty.

Sweltzer was born!
