Senator Ted Budd does NOT SUPPORT NC FARMERS

,

So we’ve written to our NC Senator, Mr Ted Budd, numerous times about his support of blanket hemp prohibition, instead of commonsense regulation, and here is the form response we always get:

Dear Mr. Brownfield,

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R.7024, the Hemp Planting Predictability Act of 2026. It is an honor to represent the people of North Carolina, and I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you on this issue.

As you are aware, H.R.7024 would delay the implementation of a hemp ban for three yearsbeginning in November of 2026. H.R.7024 was introduced by Representative James Baird on January 13, 2026, and was referred to the House Committee on Agriculture. There is currently no Senate companion legislation.

On November 12, 2025, the continuing resolution (CR) to end the government shutdown was signed by the President. The CR contained provisions that closed a loophole in the 2018 Farm bill that allowed hemp producers to manufacture intoxicating products without being subject to the same regulations and taxes as marijuana producers.

I do not believe that the expansion of the Hemp business, especially in recreational forms often advertised in appealing ways towards children, is in the best interest of U.S. public health. For these reasons, I do not support H.R.7024 in its current form.

While we do not see eye-to-eye on this issue, I hope you will continue to stay in touch with any concerns you may have.

Why on earth would our own Senator, in North Carolina, a state that DOES NOT HAVE LEGAL CANNABIS, care about legal state producers tax burden?  What kinda weird dodge is that?  A stated free-market republican should be against all extra taxes, yes?  Unless of course their opinion is swayed by lobbyist money, hmmm.

We WANT REASONABLE REGULATION!  Over 21, YES OF COURSE!  Clear labelling, yes!  Lab tested, ALSO OF COURSE!  Mr Budd, we are farmers and business owners in NC, you should be working for your NC citizens, and not for out of state lobbies trying to control their profits.

We need you now more than ever to keep the pressure up; please write them AGAIN!  It only takes a few minutes, and they need to hear from YOU!

HELP STOP THE HEMP BAN AND KEEP YOUR RIGHTS TO NATURAL WELLNESS!

Make no mistake, this is a concerted effort to take away your rights to natural medicine, and put it all into big pharma’s hands, where you will pay more, for less effect and you will not be able to know who grew your medicine, or how.  Re scheduling Cannabis to Schedule 3 at the Federal level is just paving the way for this; it’s not to give you more freedom, it’s to give large pharma corps more power to take it away from you and me.

Please reach out to your reps, talk to your friends, and keep fighting the good fight against stigma and toxic lobbyists trying to curtain your freedom of choice in how you care for yourself.

Thank you-

Sam
